Books will change your business forever…
If there is one thing that you can do as a business owner to help improve your business is to get a few books and read them on a consistent basis. Studies about successful people have been shown over and over that the single thing that makes them so successful is they read!
This isn’t a complicated matter. Simply getting books within your niche or on the topic of business and marketing will revolutionize your business and career. You simply don’t know what you don’t know. You might not know you’re doing something wrong or inefficiently. We all face uncertainty and restraints that can be fixed by simply learning more.
Even if you have 20 years of experience or your still in high school you should go buy a few books and invest in yourself. I know people who have an MBA who stopped learning and quickly fell behind in their career.
I say free because essentially they are once you consider their value. I recently read a book by Grant Cardone on selling and the information that I applied made me hundreds of dollars I would otherwise not have made. I bought them off his website and for a few dollars off Amazon. A matter of fact, you can get several books on the various topics for pennies on Amazon. If you get one small piece of information it will a thousand fold investment.
The fact is, we simply don’t read enough. Both on a personal and professional level. School wasn’t that good at proving students with the books that interested them. I know this because Frankenstein and To Kill a Mockingbird were extremely uninteresting to me. This makes students never read again.
“The average 18-to-29 year old finishes nine per year” – The Atlantic
For many millennials, they read less than the average 9 books because of how skewed the population is. The millennials that do read, read a lot. The ones that barely read at all.
Find a book that interests you!
It’s really that easy and it will make you more successful. Not to mention that reading makes people less stressful, faster thinkers, improves memory, helps sleeping, spark creativity, and improves focus.
Here’s a quick list of some of the books I read over the past year:
- Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely
- Sell or be Sold by Grant Cardone
- Linchpin by Seth Godin
- Traction by Gino Wickman
- The Starbucks Experience by Michelli
- The Ultimate Sales Letter by Kennedy
- Getting to Yes by Fisher, Ury, and Patton
- How Full is Your Bucket? by Tom Ruth and Donald Clifton, Ph.D
- The Art of the Pitch by Peter Coughter
This is only part of what I read and I got many of them for a few dollars a piece. I can’t stress enough to read and learn to expand your knowledge base. It’s critical to the success of your business to learn how to grow it. Your experience is important, but you simply don’t know what you don’t know!
